Jakarta, CNN Indonesia –

Police headquarters does not yet plan to provide special security to monitor the inmate treatment process terrorism, Abu Bakar Ba’asyir at the Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital (RSHM) Jakarta.

“So we are still waiting for requests for security from prisons (correctional institutions),” the head of the police’s Public Information Office (Karopenmas), Brigadier General Awi Setiyono, told reporters at the police headquarters in Jakarta on Friday (11/27).

Awi explained that the responsibility to protect prisoners rests entirely with the Ministry of Law and Human Rights (Kemenkumham).

“I called Wakadensus that there has been no request [pengamanan khusus]. But since those affected are in fact convicted terrorists, of course we have an interest in monitoring their progress, “he said.

Even so, according to Awi, the police still have the authority to control the development of the activities of those convicted of terrorism. Including Abu Bakar Ba’asyir.

To obtain information, Abu Bakar Ba’asyir was treated at RSHM because his health condition had deteriorated.

The head of the Public Relations and Protocol Section of the General Directorate of Corrections, Ministry of Law and Human Rights (Kemenkumham), Rika Aprianti, said that Ba’asyir complained of the condition of pain in the head and nausea.

“Still under the doctor’s care, complaints of headaches and nausea. This is not the first time that ABB has been treated. ABB is currently 82 years old,” Rika said in a written statement on Friday (11/27).

Ba’asyir is known to be the founder of Jemaah Islamiyah (JI) and has been linked to various acts of terrorism in Indonesia. One of them, the Bali bombing and the JW Marriot hotel bombing in 2004.

The South Jakarta District Court panel of judges in 2011 sentenced the founder of Jemaah Islamiyah to 15 years in prison. This verdict was lighter than the demands of the prosecutor who at the time wanted Ba’asyir to be sentenced to life imprisonment.
