International law professor Prof. Hikmahanto Juwana said the German Embassy’s reasons for staffing the FPI headquarters were absurd. In fact, the motive of the German Embassy was to reduce the level of intelligence of the Indonesian public and government.

In its official statement, the German embassy in Jakarta clarified that an employee of the German embassy was trying to get a separate picture of the security situation in question because Friday’s demonstration could cross the embassy grounds.

“This clarification really undermines the level of intelligence of the Indonesian public and government,” Professor Hikmahanto said. Press release accepted detikcom, Monday (12/21/2020).

The UI teacher has 4 reasons for his opinion above. First, it is not clear whether the employee of the German embassy is a diplomat or not. Second, embassy employees should not find out anything by going to FPI headquarters.

“If the employee wants to find out, he should do it in a neutral place, like a hotel or restaurant,” said Universitas Jenderal rector Ahmad Yani (Unjani) Bandung.

Third, Hikmahanto said the German embassy employee was insensitive to coming to the FPI headquarters in the age of social media. Of course, anyone can take pictures and makedestination-on social media.

“Finally, these employees are not even smart and sensitive to the political situation that has developed recently in Indonesia,” Hikmahanto said.

According to Hikmahanto, this employee seemed to allow the German state to be used as legitimacy for one party and at the same time as a hostile act for the other.

“Also, it is regrettable that the clarification has been made for a long time despite the fact that the German Embassy gave reasons for the Saturday and Sunday holidays. It is better if the German ambassador to Indonesia clarifies this and apologizes publicly,” Hikmahanto explained .

Finally, Hikmahanto said, the German ambassador immediately sent embassy employees home who had acted recklessly.

“This is to avoid damage to diplomatic relations between Indonesia and Germany,” Hikmahanto concluded.
