The Minister of Religion, Yaqut Cholil Qoumas, was inundated with praise from netizens after he published a video of Christmas greetings to Christians in the country.
So many accolades made the Minister of Religion a trending topic on Indonesia’s Twitter on Thursday night (12/24/2020).
Through a video posted on the social media account and personal property of the Ministry of Religion, the Minister of Religion Yaqut Cholil Qoumas delivered a speech welcoming the 2020 Christmas celebration.
“Merry Christmas 2020 to my Christian brothers. They will call him Imanuel,” wrote the figure who is often called Gus Yaqut.
The following is the full content of the speech:
My compatriots and my homeland, especially happy Christians, Christmas this year bears the motto “They will call him Emanuel.”
Through this Christmas theme, we are reminded that the presence of Almighty God is always there to overshadow us all.
We have hope and help even in difficult times due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
How Jesus Christ was born as a teacher of goodness, simplicity and figure who pays attention to the weak, as well as love of neighbor.
We invite all parties so that this year’s Christmas celebration is carried out in a simple way, not exaggerated and emphasizing the companionship and the sharing of love between families.
Through the Christmas spirit, we call on all Christians in particular and all religious communities to actively participate in creating an atmosphere of peace and harmony, while continuing to support the government in its efforts to accelerate development.
