The Director General of Regional Autonomy, Akmal Malik, denied the question that the Ministry of the Interior had deployed ASN to influence Medan Pilkada. The deployed officers only monitor the process of organizing the elections.

“There is no place for our officers to do what he said before. Once again, we say that our officers are ASNs who must be neutral and work professionally,” Akmal said in a video that was shared by the Puspen Interior Ministry, the Friday (11/12).

Akmal explained that the Ministry of the Interior always sends ASNs in every election. ASNs are tasked with ensuring that elections are conducted according to the rules.

In Pilkada 2020, Akmal said, the Interior Ministry didn’t just deploy ASN in Medan. State officials are distributed in 309 districts / cities in 32 provinces celebrating Pilkada 2020 simultaneously.

“There is no specificity, no special treatment. Everything simply supervision and monitor, “Akmal said.

“There is Bawaslu, there are law enforcement officers, who of course supervise when there are parties that are not neutral,” he added.

Earlier, the Interior Ministry sent a delegation to Medan. The head of Section II for Regional Performance Evaluation, Secretary General of the Interior Ministry, William, said that his party was sent to Medan because there was a candidate who had a relationship with President Jokowi.

“Why are we focusing on the elections in the city of Medan? Because this time there is a couple of candidates who is the president’s son-in-law. So, we were given the mandate that someone from the Interior Ministry should participate in the follow-up of the elections, “said William at a final preparation meeting for Pilkada in Medan on Tuesday (12/8), as quoted in Between.

After the vote, the Bobby Nasution-Aulia Rachman couple was said to have defeated incumbent Akhyar Nasution-Salman Alfarisi by various polling agencies.

Akhyar responded to the defeat in the quick count by accusing him of an ‘invisible hand’ or an invisible hand that had disturbed the Medan Pilkada.

“It cannot be said explicitly, but we can feel that it is very influential to play in the city of Medan,” said Akhyar in AMAN’s Winners Secretariat, Jalan Sudirman, on Thursday (10/12).
