The COVID-19 Management Working Group has responded to the sharp increase in Corona infection cases in DKI Jakarta in recent days. As of Monday (8/31/2020), there were 39,037 confirmed Corona cases in DKI Jakarta or about 22.7 percent of total Corona Indonesia cases.

COVID-19 Working Group spokesperson Wiku Adisasmito said the increase in cases could be traced from samples taken from August 16-22. At the time, there was a long weekend or long vacation that residents seemed to use to travel.

“Pandemics continue to occur in the world, we have to carry out health protocols so that they do not happen like in Jakarta with long vacations and an increase in cases,” said Wiku, on Monday (08/31/2020).

According to Wiku, about 30 percent of the cases in Jakarta actually contributed from the surrounding areas, namely Bogor, Depok, Tangerang, and Bekasi.

Wiku further explained that around 70 percent of the capacity of the 170 COVID-19 reference hospitals (RS) in Jakarta has been used. This means that more and more hospitals are filling up with patients. Specifically, the isolation room was about 69 percent used, while the ICU was 77 percent used as of August 28, 2020.

“The government is pushing to reduce the number of use of these beds to below 60 percent. So that the burden on health workers in these hospitals can be reduced,” Wiku said.

“Patients with moderate and mild criteria can be transferred to the Athlete’s Hospital from the COVID-19 referral hospitals in DKI,” he continued.

Although there is an increase in cases, the good news is that the cure rate for patients in DKI Jakarta has increased to 76.7 percent from 63.4 percent in early August. Meanwhile, the patient mortality rate dropped to three percent from 3.8 percent.
