TEMPO.CO, Jakarta -Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan said he was not given the opportunity to speak to convey the aspirations of the masses who rejected the Omnibus Law on the Job Creation Law during a meeting with President Joko Widodo on Friday 9 October 2020.
“We cannot provide information. Because they were all requested from the president and the presidential team,” Anies said while reviewing the damage at the Transjakarta bus stop at the Hotel Indonesia roundabout in central Jakarta on Saturday, October 10, 2020. “Because the message was like this, we were unable to convey any information.”
The president of the Association of All Indonesian Provincial Governments (APPSI) for the period 2019-2023 assessed that the meeting was more online because President Jokowi almost gave all the information. “So those of us who were present were unable to provide information,” Anies said again.
President Jokowi brought all the governors together for a virtual meeting on Friday morning, October 9, 2020.

Quoting Koran Tempo today, during the hour-long meeting, Jokowi asked the governors to help the central government explain the Job Creation Law to the people of his region.
On the occasion of the meeting, Jokowi only provided the opportunity to speak with five governors, namely the Governor of Lampung Arinaldi Djunaidi, the Governor of Central Java Ganjar Pranowo, the Governor of West Java Ridwan Kamil, the Governor of South Sulawesi Nurdin Abdullah and the Governor of West Kalimantan, Sutarmidji.
Meanwhile, Governor Anies, whose territory became the scene of large demonstrations that ended in clashes, did not have the opportunity to speak.
Jokowi also prohibited all participants from delivering the results of the meeting. Ridwan Kamil confirmed that the president had prohibited the participants from divulging the content of the meeting.
When the demonstration broke out yesterday, Anies Baswedan, dressed in a brown vest and bicycle helmet, met with protesters who rejected the Job Creation Law in the roundabout area of Hotel Indonesia on Thursday, October 8, 2020 by the night. The Governor of DKI Jakarta came with the head of Polda Metro Jaya, Inspector General Nana Sudjana and Major General TNI of Pangdam Jaya, Dudung Abdurrachman.
The mass demonstration of various elements in Jakarta yesterday turned violent. Anies arrived at the scene of the riot trying to calm the crowd and asked them to disperse. “This is all risky. I want those who feel like combatants to go home, no one is sick,” Anies said, recalling the crowd protesting during the pandemic.
The former Minister of Education and Culture promised to convey the aspirations of the protesters. Anies also wants these rights protected. However, Anies did not explain further to which party these aspirations would be transmitted. He only affirmed that every citizen has the right to express his aspirations.
“Tomorrow we will continue, we will continue,” Anies said.
Anies Baswedan promised to hold a meeting on the protesters’ demands. “Remember that the name of defending justice is our duty to everyone, and you all defend justice.”
