JAKARTA, KOMPAS.TV – Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs (Menko Polhukam) Mahfud MD spoke in response to the chaos of the Extraordinary Democratic Party (KLB) Congress.

Mahfud MD stated that the government could not interfere with the chaos of the outbreak of the Democratic Party. Because it is an internal problem of the party.

“For the current government, the Deli Serdang incident is an internal PD. It is not (at least not yet) a law. Because no reports or requests for new legal legality have been submitted to the Democratic Party government. The government now only handles the point of view of security, not the legality of the party, “he said. Mahfud on his Twitter, @mohmahfudmd, Saturday (3/6/2021).

He emphasized that the government has never banned the KLB or Munaslub from any political party. This can be seen in the footsteps of the Megawati-era government, Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY), all the way to Jokowi.

“So since the Bu Mega era, from Pak SBY to Pak Jokowi, the government has never banned the KLB or Munaslub, which are considered a split, because they respect the independence of political parties,” Mahfud said.

According to Mahfud, the government prefers to risk being perceived as washing its hands or neglecting rather than ignoring the independence of political parties.
