The government supports the prevention and eradication of corruption

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – President Joko Widodo has spoken on the news of the arrest of the Minister of Marine Affairs and Fisheries Edhy Prabowo by the Commission for the Eradication of Corruption (KPK). Jokowi emphasized that the government has consistently supported efforts to prevent and eradicate corruption.

“The government has consistently supported efforts to prevent and eradicate corruption,” Jokowi said via the Presidential Secretariat’s YouTube broadcast on Wednesday (11/25/2020).

Jokowi said the government respects the legal process that is currently underway at the KPK. He believes that the anti-corruption agency works in a transparent, open and professional manner.

“Yes, of course we respect the legal process that is currently taking place at the KPK, we respect it. And I believe that the KPK works in a transparent, open and professional manner,” he said.

The KPK reportedly arrested the Minister of Marine Affairs and Fisheries, Edhy Prabowo, on Wednesday morning (11/25/2020).

Vice Chairman of the Corruption Eradication Commission Nurul Ghufron said Edhy’s arrest was related to allegations of corruption in the export of fingerlings.

“It is true that the KPK has detained him in connection with the export of fingerlings,” Ghufron said when confirmed on Wednesday.

According to Ghufron, Edhy was arrested at the Soekarno-Hatta airport along with various parties from the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries and family members.

“This morning (arrested) at 1:23 in Soetta (Soekarno-Hatta airport). There were several from the KKP and their families,” Ghufron said.
