KOMPAS.com – Mrapen’s Eternal Flame in Manggarmas Village, Godong District, Grobogan Regency, Central Java, went out on Friday (9/25/2020).
South Kendeng Region Head of Mineral Resources and Energy Section Sinung Sugeng Arianto said drilling of a spring 200 meters from the location is suspected to have caused the extinction of the Mrapen fire.
The drilling caused a burst of water of up to 50 meters and is believed to have killed the gas source.

In addition, there was also a roar from the ground and the smell of hydrocarbon gas while drilling.
“But it cannot be said to be the main cause, it is still an early indication or conjecture,” he said on Friday (02/10/2020).

Manggarmas village chief Ahmad Mufid said the fire had died down to complete exhaustion.
“The fire has been out for a week and there has been no sign of fire,” Mufid said.
The Governor of Central Java, Ganjar Pranowo, also paid special attention to the extinction of the eternal flame of Mrapen.
Ganjar admitted that he was concerned that the fire would be extinguished due to exploitation activities in the surrounding area.
“There may be interference from your left and right. It could be that there are people next to you who are performing disruptive actions,” Ganjar said.
“For example, someone is digging here, then the gas leaks into the hole that was dug. I ask the team to review and investigate, as well as conduct investigations,” Ganjar added. (Author: Semarang Contributor, Riska Farasonalia | Editor: Dony Aprian)
