The Mrapen Abadi Api, which is located in Manggarmas Village, Godong Subdistrict, Grobogan Regency, Central Java, has been extinct since September 25, 2020. What is the expert’s analysis of the incident?

Sarju Winardi, Professor of Geological Engineering at Gadjah Mada University (UGM) Faculty of Engineering, explained the existence of the Eternal Flame Mrapen because there is a source of gas and an outlet. According to him, the phenomenon of the extinction of the Eternal Flame Mrapen could occur due to several things.

“Death could be that the gas has run out or there is a problem on the exit route. The problem could be stuck or because there was a lane change due to a fault or drilling activity and (the gas) changed lanes,” Sarju said when contacted. detikcom, Friday (02/10/2020).

So when asked if the Eternal Flame of Mrapen can be revived. Sarju says it is possible. However, by observing various conditions. One of them is to know precisely the gas outlet.

“That is the condition of the exit path (gas), direction and source, so far we do not have an accurate picture. So for example if you want to turn it on manually, artificially, it is possible if we know the exit path accurately. So the gas source is there, “he explained.

“If we know the exact exit route, we can drill. If the gas is still there from the source, it will flow into the (new) drill pipe,” Sarju continued.

Sarju also argues that it is naturally also possible to revive Mrapen’s eternal flame if the main problem is a blocked gas outlet. According to him, seismic activity could reopen the gas outlet.

“Naturally, is it possible? Maybe if the problem is that the gas outlet is blocked. So the gas source is still there, the outlet is blocked. Later, some seismic activity may occur that could open the fault. Sarju said.

It was previously reported that Mrapen’s Eternal Flame located in Manggarmas Village, Godong District, Grobogan went out. Manggarmas village chief Achmad Mufid said that Mrapen’s Eternal Flame had been extinguished a week ago.

“It has been extinguished this week and has shown no signs of flames,” Mufid said when contacted. detikcom, Friday (2/10).

Mufid said that Mrapen’s Eternal Flame was gradually dying out. Initially, the fire appeared to subside because it was estimated that the gas content released would be reduced.

The Eternal Flame of Mrapen was completely extinguished on Friday (9/25). Mufid also admitted that he had reported the extinction of Mrapen Eternal Flame to the appropriate agency.
