Vice president Commission X DPR Agustina Wilujeng emphasized the theme history it should still be a compulsory subject for students in schools.

The PDIP politician refused to abolish or merge history lessons with other social education subjects.

“This history course lays the foundation for understanding children in the future. These children continue with their predecessors,” he said, at Semarang Regency, on Saturday (9/19).


According to him, history lessons are a process of recognition of cultural values.

“Bung Karno advised, never leave the story,” he said.

Agustina thanked the Ministry of Education and Culture for the plan to simplify the curriculum in the face of the Covid-19 pandemic.

However, according to him, if history ceased to be a compulsory subject, children would not seek it.

“Children will seek more contemporaries,” he added.

The criticism also came from MPR RI deputy chief Jazilul Fawaid. According to him, eliminating the status of history as a compulsory subject will weaken the vision of Indonesian education and the mental formation of the nation.

The PKB politician is also concerned that Indonesia’s younger generation may forget their national identity if history lessons are no longer mandatory. He asked for the policy to be reviewed.

“This policy will threaten the younger generation in Indonesia with their identity and identity. Therefore, it is not impossible that in the future Indonesia will dissolve,” he said.
