Manchester –
Scott McTominay determines Manchester United’s qualification for the FA Cup quarter-finals. Bruno Fernandes was ‘upset’ that McTominay got the ball.
The MU midfielder scored last night his team’s only goal against West Ham in the fifth round of the FA Cup (10/2/2021). It was McTominay’s third consecutive goal in a total of seven goals this season.
MU’s winning goal came in extra time to be precise in the 97th minute. After Edinson Cavani’s header was thwarted by the baseline the hammers a wild ball fell into Marcus Rashford’s path. McTominay immediately hit Rashford’s short shot into the center of the penalty area with an accurate first-time shot.
Footage from the match shows Fernandes standing in an empty area while waiting for the ball. After McTominay’s kick lodged in the bottom corner of West Ham’s goal, Fernandes also celebrated the goal with his teammates.
Bruno Fernandes praised McTominay while joking. “Hey, the ball was supposed to be for me, bitch,” said the best Portuguese midfielder, listening into the microphone from the sidelines.
A narrow victory over West Ham led Manchester United to the FA Cup quarter-finals. MU’s next opponent will be decided by a draw taking place on February 11.
This season marks Scott McTominay’s most successful season since making his Manchester United debut in 2016/17. Manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer did not hesitate to praise the 24-year-old.
“Scott used to be a forward and I think he finished pretty well. You see he doesn’t mind being in that position. He just kicks the ball into the net,” Solskjaer said after the game of McTominay’s performance.
