PARIS, KOMPAS.com – An 18-year-old Chechen teenager is suspected of being the author of the case of a teacher who was beheaded in France for teaching about freedom of expression.

The murder took place on Friday (10/16/2020) in the afternoon local time at the secondary school where the educator taught at Conflans Saint-Honorine.

The perpetrator who had escaped after killing the teacher was confronted by the police, where the perpetrator was shot and killed.

Police explained that the victim was a history teacher who recently taught about freedom of expression, taking the example of a cartoon of the Prophet Muhammad.

His teaching then generated a wave of protests from the students’ parents, which culminated in the beheading of the teacher.

A source from the Judiciary said that a total of nine people were arrested in the case, including the parents of the student where he taught.

Reported AFP On Saturday (10/17/2020), the parents of the students indicated that they did not agree with the teacher showing cartoons of the Prophet Muhammad.

Then, three of the five alleged perpetrators arrested were acquaintances of the 18-year-old, and the first four suspects were relatives of the perpetrators.

The murders took place amid a trial for the 2015 massacre of the satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo, in which 12 of its employees were killed.

In the run-up to the trial last September, the magazine republished cartoons, sparking a wave of anger among Muslims around the world.

In his tweet, Charlie Hebdo criticized the teacher’s case, calling it a fact that intolerance has become more rampant.

French President Emmanuel Macron responded by declaring the case a “terrorist attack” and insisting that such terrorism cannot win.
