JAKARTA – Several elite TNI troops in full uniform had appeared around the DPP headquarters of the Front of Islamic Defenders (FPI) in Petamburan, central Jakarta. In response to this, the National Secretary of the Network of Lawyers in the Public Interest (Pilnet) Erwin Natosmal Oemar stated, in principle, that the TNI Act has established clear limits with respect to military operations other than war (OMSP).

“That is, through state policy or politics,” Erwin said when contacted. SINDOnews, Friday (11/20/2020).

Erwin said that the country’s policy should refer to the principles of democracy, civil supremacy, human rights, provisions of national law and international law that have been ratified.

In addition, Erwin said that technically, the country’s political decisions must be formulated between the President and the DPR. Therefore, in the context of the above case, the reduction of elite troops does not meet the requirements for state political decisions as provided by the TNI Act.
