JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – A fake honey “factory” in the Kembangan area of West Jakarta was raided by Banten police on Wednesday (11/4/2020) last week.
There, TM (35) mixes a ton of fake honey every day to supply Banten.
The factory is located at Jalan SMA 101 Joglo, Kembangan, West Jakarta. “A resident who lives in the area said he did not know the whereabouts of the fake honey processing plant.

Inside the rented house that was converted into a factory, dozens of drums containing a mixture of fake honey were placed. A strong smell came out of the fake honey liquid.
Many dead flies floated on the fake honey liquid.
At the back of the rented house, there is a special room used by TM to cook fake liquid honey.
The factory floor is sticky and dirty, the impact of the spilled liquid mixture of fake honey.
“You can see here that it is not sterile at all,” said Doffie Fahlevi, Head of the Investigation and Special Crimes Branch of the Banten Regional Police.
Doffie explained that in one production, TM generated a turnover of 600 million rupees.
“If the business runs for 1 year, the fake honey sales volume can generate more than Rs 8 billion,” Doffie said.
To commercialize honey, TM has the help of two colleagues who have been arrested by the police in Banten.
Mix harmful substances
To produce fake honey, TM uses glucose, fructose, and molasses.
“Molasses is a mixture of animal feed, so it is dangerous to consume,” said Doffie.
It is not surprising that the fake honey consumer suffers from vomiting.
Initially, TM will cook glucose and fructose so that they mix easily.

To produce a honey-like color and consistency, TM will mix the molasses.
The mixture is bottled until it resembles natural honey.
TM admitted that he was originally a chicken noodle merchant. However, due to the high demand for honey during the Covid-19 pandemic, he decided to produce fake honey.
“It started selling during a pandemic because honey is helpful in increasing resistance,” Doffie said.
The suspect produced fake honey after learning how to make it from the surrounding environment.
TM and two of his colleagues now face five years in prison.
