Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – The Taiwan Air Force deployed fighter jets a second time to identify the surge of Chinese jets crossing the island and the Taiwan Strait route.
Quoting CNBC International, on Sunday (09/20/2020), the Taiwanese government urged Beijing to withdraw from the venue.
Taiwan’s Defense Ministry said at least 19 Chinese planes were circling the island area, up from 18 previously estimated the day before.
They crossed the central line of the Taiwan Strait and flew into the area identified as the country’s air defense territory.
China, which claims Taiwan as its own territory, sent 12 J-16 fighters, two J-10 jets, two J-11 jets, as well as two H-6 bombs and a Y-8 type submarine.
According to maps held by the government, not a single aircraft approached the mainland of Taiwan or flew directly over it.
“ROCAF is tracking fighter jets and deploying air defense missile systems to monitor activity,” the ministry said in a post on Twitter, referring to the ROC Air Force.
Taiwan itself has complained about the incident this year and has had to deploy F-16s and other aircraft to intercept the aircraft.
China this weekend announced that the plane’s presence was part of a combat exercise as part of the UN peace efforts. China has even criticized the stigma that there is collusion between the island and the United States.
US Under Secretary of State for Economic Affairs Keith Krach arrived in Taipei on Thursday. This is the first senior US State Department official to arrive in four decades.
It is this situation that is ultimately heating up China, according to the Taiwanese Foreign Ministry.
