Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – The Minister of Education and Culture (Mendikbud) Nobodym Makarim was apparently furious and denied the growing problem related to the elimination of historical subjects (subjects). Nobodym said there was no policy on removing history lessons from the national curriculum.

“I want to clarify a number of things, because I am amazed at how quickly false information about historical issues spreads. I say that there are no policies, regulations or plans to eliminate history subjects in the national curriculum, ”said Nadiem through the channel. YouTube belongs to the Ministry of Education and Culture (9/20/2020).

Nobodym explained, the Ministry of Education and Culture is conducting a study on curriculum simplification, but there is no elimination of history subjects.

“This issue came out because there was an internal presentation that went out to the public with one of the permutations of the curriculum simplification. We have many, dozens of different versions that are currently going through FGD and public trials. Where various options are openly debated,” said Nadiem .

The simplification of the curriculum will not be done anytime soon. It must be tested in various schools, but not nationally.

“The simplification of the curriculum will not take place until 2020. In 2021, we will prototype at select driving schools, and not on a national scale,” said Nadiem.

Nobody conveyed that he wanted the history lessons to be of interest to the students. So there must be an update in the educational curriculum.

“My mission as a minister is the opposite of what (the issue) comes up, I want to make history something that is relevant to the younger generation, using media that are interesting and relevant to our generation, to inspire them,” said Nadiem.

“The nationalist identity of the new generation can only be formed from a collective memory that awakens and inspires. Once again, I urge the public not to let this false information go,” said Nadiem.

It was previously known that an online petition appeared raising the topic of high school history subjects and its equivalent. The petition on change.org on behalf of the Association of Indonesian History Teachers (AGSI) entitled ‘Restore the position of history subjects as compulsory subjects for all children in the nation’ has received 10,473 signatures as of Friday (18 / 9) at night
