Cai Changpan, a drug convict who escaped from Tangerang Correctional Institution, was found hanged dead. Forensic psychology expert Reza Indragiri Amriel assessed Cai Changpan’s alleged suicide as contradictory or paradoxical.

“The person in question is fleeing from prison. That means he wants to avoid execution. But why did he commit suicide later? Paradox,” Reza told reporters on Monday (10/19/2020).

Reza said Cai Changpan was found hanging himself. However, he said it was necessary to investigate whether the person in question committed suicide or was murdered.

“The person in question depends. But what cause depends? Does it really depend on what caused the death of the person? Investigate the cause of death: suicide, murder,” he said.

The investigation steps, according to Reza, must be carried out because Cai Changpan is part of an international drug union. He suspected that what happened to Cai was a way to get rid of the testimony.

“Investigations are necessary considering they are part of an international drug union. Perhaps the union is trying to stop the investigation by breaking the ‘chain’,” he said.

“The interested party also fled twice with the same modality. It could be that there are law enforcement agents involved in the escape and they do not want to be prosecuted, then they finish off the perpetrator so that he cannot give testimony,” he continued.
