PALEMBANG, KOMPAS.com – The South Sumatra Province Office of Education regrets that the police have detained many middle and high school students for participating in demonstrations against the ratification of the Omnibus Law on Cipta Kerja since the last two days.

The head of the South Sumatra Provincial Education Office, Riza Fahlevi, said that all learning activities are still taking place at home due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

However, the students took the opportunity to get out of the house and join the massive demonstration group.

“Everyone is still learning online. If there are still people participating (demonstrations), just take package C. Please go to school on the outskirts of South Sumatra,” Riza said on Friday (September 10 2020).

Riza asked parents to pay more attention to their children so that they do not participate in street demonstrations.

Also, according to Riza, agents have already secured 499 SMA and SMK students. He regretted that there were provocateurs who planned the exit of the students to the streets.

“Fortunately, these children were first secured by the police before participating in the demonstration. Otherwise, they could become victims or perpetrators of the riots,” he said.

When many students were arrested by the police, Riza said that she was very surprised. Because, until now, schools have been closed due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

“It struck me that on the phone, the police chief, many students were arrested. This is very unfortunate, they are wearing school clothes in the street, although the school is on vacation,” he explained.
