NEW YORK, KOMPAS.TV – The young Indonesian diplomat Silvany Austin Pasaribu exercised the right of reply in the UN General Assembly to refute the accusation made by the Prime Minister of Vanuatu, Bob Loughman, on the issue of Papua.
In his virtual speech, Loughman raised the issue of the alleged human rights violations that he said Indonesia committed against the people of Papua.
Silvany Austin Pasaribu says that what Vanuatu is doing is a shameful act.
“It is a shame that this country always has an excessive obsession with the way Indonesia acts or governs its own country,” he said on the UN YouTube account during a speech on Sunday (9/27/2020).
Silvany also revealed that he was confused by the attitude of Vanuatu, which always tries to teach other countries, without understanding the fundamental principles of the UN Charter.
According to him, it is clear from the letter that all countries must respect each other and not interfere in the internal affairs of other countries.
“All countries must respect the sovereignty and territorial integrity of others,” he said.
Silvany also emphasized that if Vanuatu did not understand it, do not try to lecture other countries.
Silvany also strongly stated that Vanuatu was not a representation of the Papuan community. “You must not dream of becoming a Papuan,” he said.
He also stressed that Indonesia will continue to fight separatist efforts that use human rights as a cover. Furthermore, Papua and West Papua have been part of Indonesia since 1945.
“The United Nations and the world community have supported him for decades. This is final, permanent and impossible to change,” he said.
