Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Concern about a health crisis in this country is growing. In many areas of Indonesia, hospitals are full, so they can no longer accommodate patients who are positive for Covid-19, even when patients are already in critical condition.
On the Instagram account @ laporcovid19, some of the latest conditions regarding the handling of Covid-19 in Indonesia are described.
It was noted that the current problem is not only the number of healthcare workers who have decreased due to the pandemic, but also the hospital referral system that was barely functioning at the time. Many residents have tested positive but cannot access health services.
This condition forces residents to return to their homes and increases the risk of transmission in the family.
This is because Covid-19 cases continue to rise, affecting the capacity of overcrowded hospitals. Especially for intensive care unit (ICU) wards with and without ventilators, negative pressure isolation wards, non-negative pressure Covid-19 hospital wards.
As an example, at DKI Jakarta, the data presented on the website on the availability of hospital rooms is far from reality. In the @ reportcovid-19 team’s findings, this website showed several times that rooms were still available, but when contacted, it was almost full.
This condition worsened towards the end of the year, even this team had collaborated with the Ministry of Health to get an ICU, but it was not successful. As a result, three residents of Bogor, DKI Jakarta and Surabaya who were ill were forced to return home exhausted because they could not find a room even though they had been queuing for a long time at the hospital.
“The government must accept the fact that the hospital is full,” wrote the account, on Saturday (02/12/2021).
“The addition of beds and medical devices will not make it possible to cope with the increase in patients with Covid-19, so the best solution is to tighten social restrictions and increase 3T (testing, tracking, treatment).”
