Stories from Students Who Participated in the Omnibus Law Show: I Flipped the Police Bus

Polda Metro Jaya arrested 14 suspects in the case of vandalism and assault as a result of riots against the omnibus law of the Employment Creation Law. One of the suspects, Ignatius Peter (21), admitted to being involved in the chaos due to being consumed by fake news.

“The chronology, I was agitated by the misleading news that existed and an invitation from my friend to participate in the action. Until I finally regretted this action,” said Ignatius when meeting with reporters at the General Directorate of Criminal Investigation in Polda Metro Jaya, Jakarta, on Saturday (10/10/2020).

Ignatius himself was arrested after being involved in the vandalism of a detention vehicle belonging to the Central Jakarta Metropolitan Police in the Pejompongan area, Central Jakarta, last Wednesday (10/7). He admitted that he participated in the destruction of the arrest warrant until it overturned.

“I did not hit, I only damaged the facilities, overturned my police minibus,” he added.

This third-semester student from a tertiary institution in East Jakarta admitted that he was consumed by hoaxes for having participated in the destruction. He also admitted that he did not know the content of the Employment Creation Law.

“They caused me false news, but I do not know correctly and clearly the content of the bus law,” he explained.

As is known, a group of mobs rioted and damaged a police detention car in Pejompongan, in central Jakarta. Several people were insured in connection with the incident.

Dirlantas Polda Metro Jaya Kombes Sambodo Purnomo Yogo said the vandalism happened around 4.30pm WIB in Pejompongan, central Jakarta. At that moment the police detention car went to the place to transport the masses.

Suddenly, a group of mobs arrived and blocked the prisoner’s car. The mob then damaged the arrest warrant.

Police also continued to investigate 87 people suspected of being suspects in the riots in Jakarta. Currently, 14 people have been arrested.

“So the last update is until tonight, in fact we have said that there are 87 who have been investigated. Of the 87, 7 have been arrested.
