Statement of the attitude of the Batak community in Papua towards the alleged racism of Ambroncius

Batak Community Harmony (KMB) in Papua strongly condemns Ambroncius Nababan’s alleged racist charge of Natalius Pigai. KMB Papua Province President Kenan Sipayung deeply regretted Ambroncius Nababan’s actions.

KMB expressed his attitude, criticizing what Ambroncius had done. This was broadcast at the Provincial Office of the KMB Secretariat in Jayapura on Monday (1/25/2021).

The following is the content of KMB’s Papua position statement:

1. That we, the Batak people in Papua Province, strongly condemn or condemn the statement of Ambroncius Nababan;
2. Whereas the Batak Community Harmony of Papua Province requests the Republic of Indonesia Police to thoroughly investigate and prosecute him in accordance with current laws and regulations;
3. Considering that Ambroncius Nababan’s statement is a personal statement, thus he does not represent the Batak community in Tanah Papua.

KMB Papua Province President Kenan Sipayung called on all Batak residents in Papua to maintain security and order.

“The actions taken by Ambroncius Nababan are personal, that is why we let the police process them legally, we pray that all the people in Tanah Papua remain united. Let us protect each other and do not add heat to the situation on the ground so that it will always be keep the tribes of harmony in Papua, ”he said.

Meanwhile, the head of the Batak Community Youth of Papua Province, Makmur Nababan, said on the occasion that Ambrocius Nababan’s actions were personal and had nothing to do with the Nababan clan.

“I personally and on behalf of the Nababan clan in Papua province and Jayapura city as Batak Community Youth Chief, we will take a position to report Ambroncius Nababan’s brother to the Police for legal process,” he said.

“We have never personally communicated with Ambroncius Nababan and he never lived in Jayapura city, so we will report Ambroncius Nababan’s brother to the Papua Police for immediate handling,” Makmur added.
