Sriwijaya Air Sanctions for Failure to Respect the Rights of SJ 182 Victims

Ministry of communications (Ministry of Transport) stated Sriwijaya Air They will be subject to sanctions if they do not comply with the family rights of the victims of SJ 182 accidents. This is established by the Regulation of the Ministry of Transportation Number PM 77 of 2011 regarding the Responsibility of Air Carriers.

Article 26, paragraph 1), establishes that the Director General of the Ministry of Transport may impose administrative sanctions on carriers who fail to ensure their responsibilities.


Then, paragraph 2 of article 26 establishes that the administrative sanction consists of warnings written three times in a row with an interval of one month each. If the warning is not followed, the government can suspend the commercial air transport license for 14 calendar days.

If no repair effort is made while the company’s license is frozen, the Ministry of Transport may revoke the company’s business license.

Meanwhile, Sriwijaya Air, as the airline whose plane has an accident that causes the death of passengers, must pay compensation of IDR 1.25 billion per passenger. This is indicated in article 3.

The Sriwijaya Air SJ 182 plane is known to have crashed around Male Island and Lancang Island, Thousand Islands, or 11 nautical miles from Soekarno-Hatta International Airport, Tangerang, Banten.

The registered Boeing 737-500 PK-CLC plane crashed as it was about to ascend to an altitude of 13,000 feet above sea level.

Before takeoff, the SJ 182 aircraft also delayed its departure for 30 minutes due to rainy weather. NTSC is currently working with the Agency for Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics (BMKG) to collect data related to weather.

Previously, the Minister of Transport Budi Karya Sumadi asked Sriwijaya Air to fulfill the rights of the families of the victims of Sriwijaya Air SJ 182 in the form of compensation payments.

Meanwhile, Sriwijaya Air stated that it was ready to address the needs and fulfill the rights of the families of the passengers who were victims of the SJ 182 accident.
