Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs (Menko Polhukam) Mahfud MD met with former TNI commander General (Ret.) Gatot Nurmantyo at the Mosque on the Gadjah Mada University (UGM) Campus, on Friday (11/27).
The meeting was broadcast by Mahfud through his personal Twitter account @mohmahfudmd.
“This morning, Allah met me with Pak Gatot Nurmantyo at the mosque on the UGM campus,” Mahfud said in a quoted tweet. CNNIndonesia.com, Friday (11/27).
Mahfud admitted that he spoke of many things with Gatot from heart to heart. However, he did not specify what was discussed.
“We sat in rows and talked about a lot of things from heart to heart,” he said.
In his tweet, Mahfud admitted that the meeting with Gatot was due to the two of them attending the wedding ceremony of the son of former president of the University of Yogyakarta (UNY) Rochma Wahab, who is also a former president of NU DIY.
Gatot is known to have been the TNI commander in President Joko Widodo’s first term. Gatot served as Commander-in-Chief until his retirement in 2017.
After leaving office, Gatot has often broadcast criticism and various things that are against the government.
He also declared the Indonesian Community Action Coalition (KAMI) along with various figures including Din Syamsuddin.
Later, Jokowi’s award for mahaputera services for Gatot also sparked public controversy. The four-star general decided not to attend the award ceremony.
However, Mahfud emphasized that Gatot would still accept the award even if he was not present.
Gatot himself has also admitted that he cannot refuse the award. According to him, the award was awarded by the state so it must be accepted.
