Everton struggled to keep up with Southampton’s game from the opening minutes. Several times Southampton’s attacks led by James Ward-Prowse, Che Adams and Danny Ings made Everton’s defense difficult.
In the 12th minute, Ryan Bertrand has a chance to score with a shot from inside the penalty area, but is still out of goal. Everton got their first chance in the 19th minute through Gylfi Sigurdsson.
Sigurdsson caught a ball from James Rodriguez and finished off with a curly shot, but still hit the post even though goalkeeper Alex McCarthy was dead.
Southampton had a chance to score another goal in the 26th minute through Oriel Romeu, who sent the ball into the corner, but Jordan Pickford parried. A minute later, Pickford couldn’t prevent the net from being loaned.
Danny Ings receives the ball in front of the penalty area. Although he was escorted by two rival players, he was able to provide a mature assist to Ward-Prowse, who coldly struck the ball at the far post of Pickford’s goal.

Behind the 0-1, Everton got up and increased the intensity of the attack, but the Southampton defense played solidly so it was difficult for Dominic Calvert-Lewin and James Rodríguez to move freely.
Southampton held the lead in the 35th minute. On this occasion, Ings was once again the architect of his goal when his move down the left wing ended with a cross to Che Adams on the right side of the penalty area.
Adams held the ball for a few seconds before kicking it into Pickford’s goal. Southampton even scored their third goal in the 40th minute through Stuart Armstrong but it was ruled out as Che Adams was already offside as he passed the ball.

Until halftime, Southampton were 2-0 ahead of Everton.
In the second half, Everton put Bernard on to try to increase the intensity of the attacks. However, the presence of Bernard was still difficult to improve the situation because Southampton played with a lot of discipline.
Southampton mainly waited in the back while watching the counter attack. In the 62nd minute, Stuart Armstrong fired a cross that found Danny Ings in the penalty area. Despite being independent, Ings did not welcome him.
Everton’s chase mission was made even more difficult as Lucas Digne received a red card in the 72nd minute after stepping on the feet of Kyle Walker-Peters while chasing him. In the 78th minute, Pickford was able to reject Janik Vestegaard’s header.
Calvert-Lewin was completely helpless in this match because he couldn’t score anything. In fact, he received a yellow card in injury time. The 2-0 lasted until the long whistle blew at Southampton vs Everton.
