Social Minister Juliari reportedly received $ 17 billion in bribes for personal needs

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – The Minister of Social Affairs, Juliari P Batubara (JPB), is involved in suspicions of bribery for the provision of social assistance (bansos) for the management of Covid-19 in the Ministry of Social Affairs (Kemensos).

He was named a suspect for receiving bribes by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) on Sunday (6/12/2020).

Regarding the construction of the case, the KPK revealed that Juliari allegedly received bribes of around Rs 8.2 billion in the implementation of the first period of basic food assistance packages.

“Supposedly accepted share Rp. 12 billion, which MJS distributed in cash to JPB through AW with a value of around Rp. 8.2 billion, “KPK President Firli Bahuri said while chairing a press conference on Sunday at 01.00 WIB.

He continued, the money donation was later managed by EK and SN, who are JPB’s trusted people.

The money, Firli said, was allegedly used to pay for various JPB personal needs.

Furthermore, in the second period of social assistance, namely October to December 2020, around 8,800 crore was collected.

“It is also expected to be used for JPB’s needs,” added Firli.

Thus, the social minister Juliari received bribes totaling around 17 billion rupees that were allegedly used for personal purposes.

Faced with this suspicion, the KPK named Juliari and four other people as suspects. Juliari was named a suspect of receiving bribes along with MJS and AW.

Meanwhile, two other people were identified as suspects who gave bribes, namely AIM and HS.

KPK has suspected that JPB violated article 12 letter a or article 12 letter b or article 11 of the Law (Law) on the Eradication of the Crime of Corruption together with article 55 paragraph (1) of the 1st Penal Code.

Meanwhile, MJS and AW are suspected of violating article 12 letter a or article 12 letter b or article 11 and article 12 (i) of the Law on the Eradication of Corruption together with article 55 paragraph (1) of the Penal Code .

Then, as a bribe, that is, AIM and HS, is suspected of violating Article 5 Paragraph (1) letter or Article 5 Paragraph (1) letter b or Article 13 Law on the Eradication of Corruption juncto Article 55 Paragraph (1) Penal Code .
