Joan Mir successfully sealed the title of world champion in MotoGP 2020. The emotions of the Suzuki Ecstar rider were mixed after he was crowned the best.

In the Valencia MotoGP series that was held at the Ricardo Tormo Circuit, on Sunday (11/15/2020), Joan Mir could only finish seventh, while Franco Morbidelli came out as the winner.

However, Mir’s two closest competitors, namely Fabio Quartararo and Alex Rins, failed to make it to the podium. Rins only finished fourth, while Quartararo crashed on lap nine.

As a result, with 9 additional points, Joan Mir has accumulated 171 points. Behind him are Morbidelli (142 points) and Rins (138). With one race remaining, specifically the Portuguese MotoGP race, Mir’s collection of points can no longer continue.

Joan Mir was officially proclaimed the 2020 MotoGP champion. He also celebrated by wearing a white number one jersey and a gold helmet as a symbol of the champion. Upon reaching the paddock, he again celebrated with the Suzuki crew and their families who were present to support.

“It’s hard to believe. I don’t have the words to describe my emotions right now, because this is something I’ve been fighting for all my life, and fighting for this result,” said Joan Mir, broadcast on Trans 7.

“Right now, I’m not laughing, I can’t cry either, my emotions are mixed. I’m very happy. When you follow your dream and finally achieve it, I can’t believe what happened.”

“I need time now to relax. I sat in the corner for a while there before, to digest what had happened, because I was speechless,” concluded the Spanish pilot.

Joan Mir became the first Suzuki rider to become a world champion in the MotoGP era. While in the premier class as a whole, he became the first since Kenny Roberts Jr. in 2000, while the 500cc Grand Prix was still being titled.
