PARIS, KOMPAS.com – A Paris high school teacher was killed and beheaded after he reportedly displayed and discussed cartoons of the Prophet Muhammad in his classroom.
Police said the murder took place on Friday (10/16/2020). They added that the police had also shot and killed the perpetrator.
The attack took place in Conflans-Sainte-Honorine, a suburb northwest of Paris, France.

French counterterrorism prosecutors are investigating the case as murder in connection with an attempted terrorism and terrorist criminal association.
French President Emmanuel Macron visited the school and spoke with the teachers. United Press International.
“One of our colleagues was killed today because he was teaching. We must stand together as citizens,” Macron said.

Police said the incident began when one of the students’ parents threatened a history teacher after the teacher showed a cartoon of the Prophet Muhammad to the students.
The teacher shows a cartoon that is published in a satire magazine Charlie hebdo in 2015 as part of the debate.
Reporting from Reuters, the teacher showed a cartoon of the Prophet Muhammad earlier this month.

A Twitter post on October 9 contained a video of a man claiming that his daughter was a student and that he was shocked and upset by the teacher’s actions.
The man in the video urged the Twitter user to complain to authorities and called for the teacher to be fired.
