Shopee Liga 1 2020 will not continue this year. The competition was postponed until early 2021.

This is an agreement made at the PSSI Executive Committee (Exco) meeting. There will be no League 1 competition until early next year. The reason for this was not issued by the Indonesian National Police (Polri).

The National Police does not give permission to crowd because it concentrates on the Regional Chiefs Elections (Pilkada) at the end of the year. Furthermore, no recommendations were issued for the 2020 Shopee League 1 competition because they considered the conditions of the corona virus pandemic.

“The Exco PSSI meeting resulted in the decision for PSSI to postpone all competitions, that is, Leagues 1, 2 and 3 in 2020. In addition, the competition will start again in early 2021,” said the acting secretary general of PSSI, Yunus Nusi, in a statement.

“PSSI will give authority to PT Liga Indonesia Baru (LIB) as operator of League 1 and 2 competitions to find formulas, formats and competition systems for PSSI’s decision,” he added.

It should be noted that the 2020 season competition has only been postponed, not eliminated. This means that the 2020 season competition will resume in 2021, not starting a new season.

Shopee League 1 and League 2 were originally scheduled to continue in early October. But the absence of permission from the police made the continuation of the competition postponed and subject to questioning.

At an extraordinary meeting in Yogyakarta on October 13, representatives from 18 Shopee Liga 1 2020 clubs made a statement of agreement to continue this season’s competition with a number of options, including continuation in November or December 2020, as well as in January 2021.
