Coach Indonesia U19 team Shin tae yong admitted that he was surprised that his team could beat European teams during training camp in Croatia.
The Indonesian U19 team have played TC in Croatia for almost two months. While there, David Maulana et al played 11 test matches against national teams from other countries and clubs.
The Indonesian team lost 0-3 to Bulgaria and 1-7 to Croatia at the start of the TC. However, the Red and White Team’s performance continued to improve until they achieved five victories.
Of the five victories, four of them were against teams and national teams from Europe. The Indonesian U19 team beat Dinamo Zagreb 1-0, NK Dugopolje 3-0, Hajduk Split 3-0 and North Macedonia 4-1.
“The opponents we beat were the same age (under 19), but we were surprised to beat the European team. In Indonesia, they treated me like a (special) VIP,” said Shin Tae Yong as reported by khan.co .
Shin Tae Yong also admitted that in terms of technology, Indonesian soccer is not far behind. The problem for the players is more the basic technical problem.

“Surprisingly, the technology is good, but the problem is the basic technique. Tactically it is also good. You could say that the value is 75 out of 100,” he said.
The Indonesia U19 team is currently in virtual training. This exercise was carried out in order to prepare the team for the U19 Asian Cup 2020 and the U20 World Cup 2021.
The Indonesian U-19 national team also plans to hold a TC abroad after canceling their participation in the Toulon tournament. The Netherlands is one of the options for a training camp because the players of the Indonesian Under-19 team can face good teams to be test opponents.
