Shin Tae-yong did not accompany the Indonesian U19 team to training camp in Spain. What happens to the South Korean coach?

Shin Tae-yong is appointed coach of the Indonesian U-19 team in preparation for the U-20 World Cup in 2021. He has been in charge for a year on December 28.

Shin Tae-yong’s hard work must be lost. FIFA stated on December 24, 2020 that the U-20 World Cup in Indonesia was canceled due to the conditions of the corona virus pandemic. This event carried over to 2023 and has the potential to make all the players who have been prepared have to be replaced because their age is no longer enough.

Despite the U-20 World Cup being far behind, the U-19 team still went to Spain for training camp. The situation was overwhelming because it was scheduled before the FIFA decision came out.

Shin Tae-yong, on the other hand, decided not to go to Spain with other assistant coaches from South Korea. The Garuda Muda squad while in Spain was only accompanied by a coaching staff from Indonesia along with the technical director, Indra Sjafri.

PSSI Acting Secretary General (Plt) Yunus Nusi explained that there was a change in Shin Tae-yong’s plans. The former South Korean national team coach decided to focus on the Indonesian U-23 national team, which is also in training camp until December 31, 2021 for next year’s SEA Games.

“There was a change after the publication of the FIFA release statement regarding the postponement of the U-20 World Cup. Coach Shin discussed with the Technical Director (Indra Sjafri), for a while he focused on the current National Team Indonesian National U-23. After finishing the U-23, he was in the 2nd. January left for Spain, “said Yunus Nusi.

Shin Tae-yong refused to be interviewed when he released the U-19 team to Spain at the Fairmont hotel in Jakarta on Saturday afternoon (12/26/2020) WIB. On the other hand, through the South Korean media, he seemed disappointed by the U-20 World Cup.

“We have done our best to prepare to appear in the U-20 World Cup despite the corona pandemic situation in the last year,” Shin Tae-yong was quoted as saying by Yonhap news agency.

“The ability of the U19 players has improved rapidly. I am looking forward to the U20 World Cup next year because physically and mentally we have developed a lot,” he added.

Shin Tae-yong’s future in the Indonesian national team is in doubt. This cannot be separated from the withdrawal of Shin Tae-yong’s assistant, Gong Oh-kyun.

Gong Oh-kyun has no longer been seen at the U19 national team training ground in Jakarta since November 13, 2020. There are now only three of the right-hand men of South Korea’s Shin Tae-yong who are still standing, namely Kim Hae-woon, Lee Jae-hong, and Kim Woo-jae.

“Yes, sure. But now there is no resignation letter and the reasons for that,” PSSI technical director Indra Sjafri told reporters about Gong Oh-kyun.

“He has not trained since the Indonesian Under-19 National Team held a training camp in Jakarta,” he added.

Since he was appointed to lead the Indonesian national team from the age group to the oldest, Shin Tae-yong has been affected by many conflicts. He had a confrontation with Indra Sjafri, sparking a comment war on the news.

There is also Shin Tae-yong’s wish to hold a training camp in South Korea that PSSI has failed to fulfill. On the other hand, PSSI chose Croatia and Spain for the locations of the training camps.
