Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Coast Guard (coastguard) China entered the territory of Natuna RI. The ship was even there for the weekend and refused to leave the North Sea for Natuna.
Based on data from the Maritime Safety Agency of the Republic of Indonesia (Bakamla RI) the incident occurred on Saturday (12/9/2020). The Chinese coast guard ship with hull number 5204 entered Natuna at 10:00 WIB.
“The Chinese Coast Guard ship was caught wandering in the ZEEI (Exclusive Economic Zone of the Republic of Indonesia) North Natuna Sea, which is a jurisdiction of Indonesia,” the agency wrote in a press release received. CNBC Indonesia, Sunday (9/13/2020).
“Despite being asked what their purpose is, Chinese ships are reluctant to leave and persist in the area.”
CCG 5204 insisted that they were patrolling the nine-dash line, which is the territory of the People’s Republic of China. Bakamla RI has said that according to UNCLOS 1982 (international maritime law), the nine-dash line is not recognized.
The ship was expelled from Indonesian jurisdiction immediately. “Until now (Sunday), the two ships are still shadowing each other. KN Nipah 321 continues to try to expel CCG 5204 from ZEEI,” Bakamla’s statement wrote again.
Meanwhile, Indonesian Foreign Ministry spokesman Teuku Faizasyah relayed the official steps of the Indonesian Foreign Ministry towards the action of the Chinese coastguard vessel in the waters of the Indonesian Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) in the Sea from Natuna del Norte.
To CNBC Indonesia, on Sunday (9/13/2020), Faizasyah said that the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs had received a report from the Indonesian Maritime Security Agency (Bakamla) about the existence of a Chinese coast guard vessel, CCG 5204 , in the waters of the Indonesian EEZ.

As a follow-up to this incident, the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs contacted the Deputy Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China in Jakarta and requested clarification on the purpose of the existence of CCG 5204 in the waters of the Indonesian EEZ.
“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs reiterated to the Deputy Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China that the Indonesia EEZ has no overlapping water claims with the People’s Republic of China and rejects the 9DL RRC claim because it contradicts the 1982 UNCLOS,” Faizasyah said.
Not the first
In fact, this is not the first time it has happened. The same thing happened in early 2020.
On December 30, 2019, RI sent a strong protest to China for violating Indonesia’s EEZ. These violations include conducting illegal fishing activities that protect the Chinese coast guard.
At that time, the Foreign Ministry had issued a note of objection. Even calling the Chinese ambassador.
Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi said that the country’s claim to the Bamboo Curtain would not be recognized until forever. “I think our position is quite clear,” he said when meeting with reporters at the State Palace at the time.
Until now CNBC Indonesia still contacting Bakamla RI for the latest situation. However, there has been no further response.
