PEKANBARU, KOMPAS.com – A police officer with the initials IZ (55) was arrested when he was carrying 16 kilograms of methamphetamine-type narcotics.

This member of the rank of Police Commissioner (Kompol) who served in the General Criminal Investigation Directorate (Ditreskrimum) of the Riau Police, was shot when he was arrested in Jalan Soekarno Hatta, Pekanbaru city, Riau, on Friday ( 10/23/2020).

The perpetrator was shot because he fled in a car with a fellow methamphetamine courier with the initials HW (52).

At that time, the police shot down the assailant’s car with a firearm and, as a result, the person was shot in the arm and back.

The police officer is currently in treatment at Riau Police Bhayangkara Hospital, while the perpetrator HW has a broken head due to a car accident while escaping.

Riau Police Narcotics Detective Director Kombes Pol Victor Siagian confirmed that the police officer was shot.

“Yes, that’s true. Currently we are still in development, up to 16 kilograms of crystalline methamphetamine have been secured. The perpetrator (IZ) is being treated at the Riau Police Bhayangkara Hospital,” Victor told reporters on Saturday. (10/24/2020).

Already stalked, fled when he was about to be caught

Meanwhile, Riau Police Chief Inspector General Pol Agung Setya Imam Effendi at a press conference this afternoon said that a police officer and a colleague were arrested while carrying 16 kilograms of crystalline methamphetamine.

The two suspects took the methamphetamine in Jalan Parit Indah, Pekanbaru City.

Police who knew of the suspect’s movement immediately tried to arrest him. However, the two suspects fled by car.

“The perpetrators knew that the officers were lurking so they fled,” Agung told reporters Saturday afternoon.

Threatened with death

When the chase took place, he continued, the suspect did not want to stop even though he had been given a warning. However, the police officers and their colleagues still tried to escape.

So the officers took decisive action by shooting the car several times from the right side to stop it.

“The suspect’s car kept trying to escape until it collided with several other vehicles,” Agung said.

Agung said the two suspects were charged under article 114 paragraph (2) along with article 112 paragraph (2) of Law Number 35 of 2009 on Narcotic Drugs. The suspects face the death penalty or prison of up to 20 years.

As reported, the video of police chasing a car carrying narcotics went viral on social media.

An officer’s voice asked the driver to stop the perpetrator’s car. There were even several shots. The officers also appeared to hit the assailant’s car several times. However, the perpetrators never stopped.
