TIMIKA, KOMPAS.com – The police have investigated Alex Luferchek, a US citizen, pilot of the Mission Aviation Fellowship (MAF).
The plane was set on fire by an armed criminal group (KKB).
Papua Police Chief Inspector General Paulus Waterpauw said the plane was not chartered but a regular flight.
At the time of the flight, there were two passengers who were priests.

“At first we thought it was chartered, it turned out not. The results of the test, it was a regular flight. His service helps pastors, servants of God who will serve from one town to another,” said Paulus, accompanied by the chief of police of Mimika AKBP I Gusti Gde Era Adhinata, and Danyon. Brimob B Polda Papua Police Commissioner Ramadhona, in Timika, Saturday (1/9/2021).
According to the pilot, while on board the plane, he suddenly saw about 10 people coming out of the bushes with guns.
The pilot was then assaulted with a firearm, then the armed group dropped the items on the plane.
In addition, the plane was damaged and burned.
Kapolda deeply regretted this act and strongly condemned the KKB’s actions that were beyond human reason.
This is because the MAF planes have been active inside Papua only to serve the priests.
However, these facilities were in fact damaged.
“Personally, I am very sorry about this. People have been controlled by dark influences,” Kapolda said.
The regional police chief pointed out that even before the KKB set the plane on fire, the airport priests had told them not to take this action.
This is because the plane is a means for pastors from one village to another to preach the gospel.

However, KKB still damaged and burned the plane.
“The other servants of God around the airport have warned. This is a pastor, this is the servant of God, this is the plane we use, do not destroy it, do not kill the pastor. But KKB continues to do that,” concluded the Kapolda .
It was previously reported that the MAF PK-MAX aircraft caught fire at Kampung Pagamba Airport, Mbiandoga District, Intan Jaya Regency, Papua, on Wednesday (1/6/2021).
The perpetrator of the destruction and burning of the MAF aircraft was carried out by the armed criminal group (KKB) Intan Jaya led by Undius Kogoya.
