KOMPAS.com – Minister for Tourism and Creative Economy (Menparekraf) Sandiaga Salahuddin Uno said that the resurrection of Aceh would inspire the revival of Indonesian tourism in the future.

He said this when he thanked the Aceh Provincial Government (Pemprov) for the plan to celebrate the 16th anniversary of the tsunami on Saturday (12/26/2020).

According to Sandi, Aceh has strong natural and cultural resources that can attract the tourism sector and creative economy (parekraf).

He gave an example, namely Acehian noodles and chicken captured as culinary wealth of Aceh, as well as Aceh’s songkok, which is the variety of crafts and clothing from the Veranda of Mecca.

Meanwhile, according to data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), the number of visits by foreign tourists (tourists) to Aceh is increasing every year. In 2019, the number reached 34,465 people.

However, the Covid-19 pandemic has had a major impact on the tourism sector. The number of foreign tourists throughout 2020 is only 10,401 people.

Therefore, the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy (Kemenparekraf) will strengthen collaboration with various parties, including local governments, to revive the parekraf sector.

An inspiring rebirth of Aceh

Sandiaga Uno in its statement on Thursday (12/25/2020), said that according to the World Bank, the Aceh tsunami on December 26, 2004 claimed 167,000 lives.

However, the people of Aceh rose up. The strong and independent character of the Aceh people has also inspired the Indonesian people to come out of the Covid-19 pandemic, especially in the parekraf sector.

“Like today, how should we overcome the Covid-19 pandemic, which has had a major impact on the tourism sector and the creative economy?” Sandi said in a written statement.
