Jakarta –
Tottenham Hotspur manager José Mourinho praised Manchester City defender Ruben Dias. The 23-year-old is considered the key to The Citizens’ success at the top of the Premier League rankings.
Dias was signed by City of Benfica on September 29. Mourinho had wanted to take him to Tottenham, but City’s rate of € 68 million proved more satisfactory for Benfica.
After joining, Dias was quick to adapt to Pep Guardiola’s style of play. He was direct melody and managed to secure a place as the central defender of the City.
Ruben Dias has played 20 Premier League games so far, and 13 of them have ended clean sheet. City have also conceded just 14 goals so far, the fewest of any team.
Not surprisingly, City are now in the top position of the standings with 50 points, 5 points ahead of Manchester United, who are in second place. For Mourinho, Dias contributed to all of that.
The Portuguese player managed to be the answer to the defensive problems that City experienced last season, where they suffered 9 defeats, blowing up the Premier League title to Liverpool.
“Ruben Dias has had a tremendous influence on this improvement,” Mourinho told Sky Sports.
“He is a good boy, humble, hardworking, and I am happy that his arrival in the Premier League has had such an impact. I am clearly happy to see him,” Mourinho continued.
Tottenham will travel to Manchester City’s headquarters in Premier League Week 24, on Sunday (2/14) at 12:30 AM WIB. The game can be seen on Mola TV through the following link.
