Several countries of the world have started corona vaccination. The vaccines used range from those manufactured by the American-German company Pfizer-BioNTech, Moderna, to those manufactured by the Chinese pharmaceutical company Sinopharm.
The following is a list of countries that have been vaccinated against Covid-19.
China
The Chinese government has provided Covid-19 experimental vaccines to health workers and border inspectors since last July. this made it the first country to test a vaccine in humans.
The director of the Center for Science and Technology Development of the National Health Commission, Zheng Zhongwei at the time, said that the vaccine had been approved for use on July 22.
On the CCTV-2 Dialogue program, Zheng said that people at high risk of exposure to the virus, including medical personnel, epidemic prevention personnel, medical personnel at clinics, and customs and border personnel, have the right to receive vaccinations. The vaccine used at that time was the Sinopharm vaccine.
United States of America
The United States has started the Covid-19 vaccination since Monday morning (12/14) local time. Vaccinations are carried out using vaccines manufactured by Pfizer-BioNTech.
The vaccination was carried out after the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) allowed the mass use of the vaccine on Friday (11/12).
The FDA authorizes the emergency use of the vaccine based on a late-stage trial that has been shown to be 95 percent effective in preventing Covid-19.
Vaccines can be given to people 16 years of age or older, with priority given to healthcare workers and the elderly in nursing homes.
Then, on Thursday (12/17), a panel of American experts also recommended an emergency approval for the use of the Covid-19 vaccine developed by Moderna.
The president-elect of the United States, Joe Biden, received the first dose of the Pfizer vaccine.
Then the Director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, Anthony Fauci, received the first dose of the Moderna vaccine on Tuesday (12/22).
Canada
Canada began its Covid-19 vaccination on Monday (12/14) prioritizing healthcare workers and nursing home residents.
As in the US, the vaccine used by Ottawa is a vaccine manufactured by Pfizer-BioNTech.
The first dose of the vaccine was injected into a Toronto nursing home worker named Anita Quidangen and was broadcast live on television.
Mexico
Mexico will start the Pfizer-BioNTech Covid-19 vaccination on Thursday (12/24).
The Mexican government issued on Friday (11/12) a permit for the emergency use of the corona vaccine. The priority vaccination will give priority to the first-line medical teams, and will be given in Mexico City and the northern state of Coahuila.
Chancellor Marcelo Ebrard said 1.4 million doses would come from Belgium out of the 34.4 million the company had agreed to deliver.
Mexico also has initial purchase agreements with the Chinese-Canadian project CanSinoBio for 35 million doses and with the British AstraZeneca for 77.4 million doses. Mexico is known to also order vaccines from China and Sputnik V.
President Andreas Manuel López Obrador said he was ready to be the first to be injected with the Sputnik V vaccine if its efficacy is proven.
Serbia
Serbia said it would start Covid-19 vaccines on Thursday (12/24).
President Aleksander Vucic said on Wednesday (12/23) that this vaccine made Serbia a Balkan country and one of the first countries in Europe to launch a campaign to use the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine.
Reported AFP, local officials say Serbia has received nearly 5,000 doses of the Pfizer vaccine.
“Vaccinations start tomorrow in Serbia,” Vucic told reporters, adding that the first vaccines will be administered to parents in nursing homes.
Vucic expects a “massive” vaccination effort to take place in mid-January.
At present, the Serbian pharmaceutical agency is still examining “samples of other vaccines”.
Swiss
Switzerland kicked off the launch of the Covid-19 vaccine manufactured by Pfizer-BioNTech on Wednesday (12/23) by prioritizing older people in nursing homes as recipients of the first injection.
An elderly woman in her 90s in a nursing home was the first to receive the vaccine.
Swissmedic’s regulatory authorities announced that they had approved the use of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine after a two-month ongoing review.
Reported AFP, vaccination is not mandatory but is administered free of charge.
Switzerland has signed a contract to purchase around three million doses of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine, around 7.5 million doses of the Moderna vaccine and around 5.3 million doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine.
Israel
Israel has also started its Covid-19 vaccination since Sunday (12/20) using the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine.
A day earlier, on Saturday (12/19), Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu became the first person to receive the vaccine at the Sheba Medical Center, Ramat Gan, near Tel Aviv.
The Health Ministry said the vaccines will be carried out in 10 hospitals in Israel.
English
Britain is one of the first countries to vaccinate Covid-19 on Tuesday (8/12) using the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine.
Margaret Keenan, 90, was the first to receive the vaccine.
British Prime Minister Boris Johnson praised his country as the first to approve the vaccine. he calls it “fantastic” news that will help get life back to normal.
Russia
Russia started its Covid-19 vaccination on Saturday (5/12) using the independently developed Sputnik V vaccine.
Vaccinations were carried out in 70 health centers in the capital Moscow. President Vladimir Putin said that teachers and medical staff were the top priority in the first batch of vaccines.
Vaccinations are available free of charge to all Russian citizens and the injection is voluntary.
UEA
The United Arab Emirates authorized the emergency use of the Covid-19 vaccine on September 14, just six weeks after human clinical trials began in the Persian Gulf country.
The vaccine developed by the Chinese pharmaceutical company Sinopharm obtained a permit for emergency use of the vaccine in the country.
Reported by Antara, the emergency use of the vaccine was allowed after a series of criteria were imposed and tested on 31,000 volunteers.
The Prime Minister and Vice President of the United Arab Emirates, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, received the Sinopharm coronavirus vaccine.
