Riots in Bandung non-workers and students, 10 people arrested

BANDUNG, KOMPAS.com – Kapolrestabes Bandung Kombes Ulung Sampurna Jaya said that the protesters who rioted in front of the West Java DPRD building were not from the labor and student groups.

Ulung said this was related to the demonstration against the Job Creation Law in Bandung which ended in chaos on Tuesday (6/10/2020).

According to Ulung, ten people were arrested for the riots.

“There may be 10 people arrested by Prabu and the detective team. We will carry out an examination of them and what group they are from,” Ulung told reporters Tuesday night.

Ulung said that after the students’ demonstration, another crowd came to the front of the West Java DPRD building to hold a demonstration.

“It is estimated that from other groups that are not students, then they pushed with the members and tried to control the Council Building, in addition to conquering it,” said Ulung.

According to Ulung, the masses whose origins have not been identified threw stones and firecrackers at the officers guarding the West Java DPRD building.

Not long after, around 6:45 p.m. WIB, the police managed to forcibly disperse the protesters.

During the action, the police fired tear gas to knock down and break up the crowd.

“We can pressure him and we defeat him. Of the many perpetrators, we secure him for investigation. The development where this group came from,” Ulung said.

That day, the police sent 650 people to guard the demonstrations by workers and students.

“The job is over, the students are over, there are other groups outside the students, taking anarchist actions against the members so that we can get them out,” Ulung said.
