Jakarta, CNN Indonesia –
Spokesperson for the Congregation Ahmadiyya Indonesia (JAI) Yendra Budiana awaits real action from the Minister of Religion Ruby Cholil Qoumas related to his statement to protect the religious rights of Ahmadiyah members.
This statement was previously made by Yaqut regarding the government’s assertion of the religious rights of Ahmadiyah and also of the Shiites in Indonesia.
“We talked more about how the Ministry of Religion implements the religious rights of citizens. Of course we appreciate it,” Yendra said when contacted. CNNIndonesia.com, Friday (12/25).
Yendra said that this could start with the revocation of the Joint Ministerial Decree (SKB) of 3 Ministers on the Prohibition of the Ahmadiyah Teachings, which was signed by the minister of religion, the interior minister and the attorney general in 2008.
According to him, the provisions contained in the SKB have often been the reason why many parties, especially the regional government, banned Ahmadiyah’s activities.
“It has to be from there first, the deregulation of these regulations. Until now these regulations have become the reason for many parties to issue discriminatory policies,” he said.
Apart from this, Yendra said that the Ahmadiyah congregation had been in contact with Yaqut since he became president of GP Ansor. At that time, according to him, Yaqut was also open to the existence of Ahmadiyah.
Yendra said, at the ministerial inauguration some time ago, Yaqut also guaranteed that all religious groups will be accommodated and that there was no violence against marginalized groups.
“So now he also says that (protecting) the consistency of the attitude. During the inauguration and delivery speech he also said that he wanted everything to be accommodated,” Yendra said.
Earlier, Yaqut stated that the government would protect the religious rights of Ahmadiyah members and Shiites in Indonesia. According to Yaqut, they are citizens who must be protected.
The statement itself is a response to the request by Syarif State Islamic University professor Hidayatullah Azyumardi Azra that the government affirm minority groups, especially those who are often marginalized and persecuted.
Yaqut also stated that the Ministry of Religion would facilitate a more intense dialogue to bridge the differences that had occurred so far. Yaqut also said that it would review Ministerial Decree 3 on the ban on Ahmadiyah.
