Abadikini.com, JAKARTA – Nasdem Party Chairman Surya Paloh stated that he supports the simplification of political parties in Indonesia by increasing the parliamentary threshold (PT). To that end, Surya Paloh offered to raise the parliamentary threshold from 4 to 7 percent.

This was transmitted by Surya in his speech at the commemoration of the 9th anniversary of the Nasdem Party virtually in Jakarta, yesterday Wednesday (11/11/2020).

In response to this, Bulan Bintang Party (PBB) Chairman General Yusril Ihza Mahendra said it was good not 7 percent but 33 percent if the parliamentary threshold was to be raised.

“The good thing is that 33 percent, do not be discouraged. So once the choice of a party is still 2 or a maximum of 3 parties. If 7 percent theoretically there could be 14 parties, yes, there are still Many. It would be very elegant if Pak SP expressed PT 33 percent, “Yusril said when asked for his answer in Jakarta on Thursday (12/11/2020).

According to Yusril, by implementing the PT at 33 percent, many parties will not participate in the elections. Then it will decrease after the election.

“With PT 33 percent, I think there will be many parties that will not participate in the election because it is too heavy. So, in the first stage, the parties will automatically diminish, especially after the General Elections, ”said the former Minister of Justice and Human Rights in the era of President Megawati.

Then, Yusril explained, if 33 percent were stipulated by law, then when it was brought to the Constitutional Court (MK) to sue it, it would also be rejected.

Until now, the Constitutional Court has always argued that because the PT is not regulated in the 1945 Constitution, it has become an “open legal policy” that is the authority of the DPR and the president to decide.

“So if it is decided that the PT is 33 percent, the Constitutional Court may not cancel it for reasons of democracy or whatever.” Doesn’t the Constitutional Court always argue that it is an “open legal policy” that the Court cannot judge? Yusril explained.

About the fate of small parties, Yusril explained, there is no need to talk about that any more. With PT 4 percent it is difficult. 7 percent added weight. So maybe 33 percent. It is the same weight.

“If the PT is big, it is not only a problem for small parties. If the PT were 33 percent, the Nasdem Party would be a small party. PDIP, Golkar, PKS, Gerindra, etc. will become small parties if the PT rises to 33 percent. I think Pak SP will be happy, “concluded Yusril.
