Minister of Religion Ruby Cholil Qoumas we do not want Islamic populism to spread in Indonesia. Nor did he want groups acting in the name of Islam to bring religious values ​​to conflicting norms.

“I don’t want it, all of us, of course, don’t want Islamic populism to spread in a way that overwhelms us,” Yaqut said at the Polda Metro Jaya National Interreligious Gathering Webinar broadcast on YouTube Public Relations by Polda Metro Jaya on Sunday (27 / 12).

Yaqut invited all parties to make religion an inspiration, not an aspiration. According to him, this thought has a philosophical meaning that religions should respect and appreciate each other.

The general president of GP Ansor did not want the Ministry of Religion during his tenure to become an institution that sets a bad example of religious life.

“Let’s make religion a source of inspiration and not a religious aspiration. Because religious aspirations can be very dangerous if people make mistakes,” he said.

Furthermore, Yaqut said that Indonesia is a country formed on the basis of an agreement of various religions and does not consider the majority or the minority. Therefore, he asked the community to obey and accept the agreement.

He called on people to oppose movements that discriminate or do not recognize one of the country’s religions.

“When it was still the Banser Command, I said if there was something we were fighting against. But if the Minister of Religion spoke like that it was not very appropriate, but the point is to fight, that’s all,” he said.

Previously, Yaqut pledged to provide protection to all religions because Indonesia does not belong to just one religion. According to him, Indonesia is owned jointly and not by a particular group.
