Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – RI continues to use the AstraZeneca vaccine in 7 regions, namely Bali, East Java, Nusa Tenggara, Riau Islands, North Sulawesi, Maluku Province, and DKI Jakarta.

This is in contrast to five countries that have stopped using the AstraZeneca vaccine.

This was relayed by the Covid-19 vaccination spokesperson of the Ministry of Health, Siti Nadia Tarmizi. According to him, AstraZeneca’s largest distribution is in East Java and Bali.

“As of now, AstraZeneca’s vaccination process is still ongoing,” Siti Nadia said at the AEFI Explain press conference on AstraZeneca’s Covid-19 vaccine and Covax facility, on Tuesday (3/30/2021).

Here are five countries that reject the use of the AstraZeneca vaccine:

1. Holland

The decision to discontinue the AstraZeneca vaccine for non-elderly people in the Netherlands was made 3 days after Germany stopped using the vaccine for the first time at the age of less than 60 years.

The reason for the discontinuation is the presence of blood clots in some cases after vaccination with AstraZeneca.

Health authorities investigating the side effects of vaccines say that of the 400,000 people vaccinated by AstraZeneca, there are only five reports of cases of unusual blood clots after injection.

All cases of blood clots occurred between seven and 10 days after vaccination. Many of those who experience blood clots are between the ages of 25 and 65.

2. Germany

The German vaccine commission STIKO recommends the AstraZeneca vaccine only for people over 60 years of age. This is because many cases of blood clots occur in young adults.

The plan is for the new recommendation for the AstraZeneca vaccine to be administered in late April. Especially for young adults receiving the AstraZeneca vaccine.

“We are stopping vaccination with AstraZeneca for residents under the age of 60,” said Health Minister Dilek Kalayci, alluding to the new data on the side effects of the AstraZeneca vaccine.

3. Spain

In line with Germany, Spain also provides the AstraZeneca vaccine for the elderly. With the exception of young adults who have received a letter of recommendation from a doctor regarding the risk of death if they do not immediately get the Corona vaccine and have a small chance of experiencing serious side effects.

His policy follows in the footsteps of Germany, which published new data related to an increase in blood clots. In the report, a case of blood clots occurred in the head, known as sinus venous thrombosis.

Quoted from Deutsche Welle, blood clots in the head that are not common are the ones that adult women experience the most.

4. France

France first discontinued the use of the AstraZeneca vaccine at the age of less than 55 years. They chose to be careful when using AstraZeneca as cases of blood clots were found in young adults.

“This policy is based on the fact that reports of blood clots that caused the temporary suspension of the use of the vaccine in France and other European countries yesterday were only seen in those under 55 years old,” explained the French health authorities.

5. Canada

The National Advisory Committee on Immunization of Canada (NACI), an independent panel of experts, explained that the benefits of the AstraZeneca vaccine at the age of less than 55 years are not yet clear.

Therefore, they chose to discontinue the AstraZeneca vaccine in that age range.

“From what is currently known, there is substantial uncertainty about the benefits of administering the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine to adults under the age of 55,” NACI said in a written statement.

In contacting AstraZeneca, he urged the company to also conduct more studies on the risks and benefits of its Corona vaccine at the age of less than 55 years.
