Jakarta, CNN Indonesia –
Chief Imam of the Islamic Defenders Front (FPI) Muhammad Rizieq Shihab asked the government to release clergymen and public figures it thought had taken action criminalization the current regime.
This was said to be one of the conditions for reconciliation that Rizieq offered to the government so that the criminalization of the ulama and community leaders would not occur again.
“But first release the Habaib, our leaders. There are still many of our scholars who are suffering in prison, release the elderly cleric Abu Bakar Ba’asyir, Habib Bahar bin Smith, release Syahganda Nainggolan, Anton Permana, Mr. Jumhur Hidayat, “Rizieq was quoted as saying on the YouTube channel Front TV, on Thursday (11/12).
Rizieq also called on the government to release workers and students who were arrested by the police while holding a demonstration against the Job Creation Law recently. Rizieq assessed that his party has opened up to reconciliation and dialogue with the government. He stated that his party was ready for peace and did not want to make noise in Indonesia.
“We have broadcast it since 2017. The response we received was not reconciliation. What we got was the criminalization of the ulama. We are ready at any moment, but stop criminalizing the ulama. Show good intentions. We are ready for peace, we are here. ready for dialogue, “Rizieq said.
Still, Rizieq provided the condition that the dialogue that could then take place with the government must be two-way. He also hopes that the government can listen to the aspirations of the ulama in the development of Indonesia in the future.
“What does the government want from the people, from the ulama habait? Tell us to listen to it. We are very ready. After you speak, listen to us too. Because the dialogue is two-way. In one direction it is called a monologue,” Rizieq said.
Ba’asyir is one of those convicted in terrorism cases who was sentenced to 15 years in prison. In 2019, there was a speech that the government would grant Ba’asyir parole due to health problems. However, the parole was reviewed.
While Bahar bin Smith was named a suspect three times by the police. The founder of the Islamic boarding school Tajul Alawiyyin, Kemang, Bogor was identified as a suspect in the hate speech case against President Joko Widodo, as well as the persecution of two teenagers in December 2018. Recently, Bahar was again identified as a suspect by alleged abuse of a taxi driver online.
Meanwhile, US figures such as Syahganda, Jumhur and Anton Permana were named by the Criminal Investigation Unit of the National Police as suspected of inciting riots during the recent demonstrations against the omnibus law of the Ciptaker Act. They were charged with various articles, ranging from the Information and Electronic Transactions Act (ITE) on spreading fake news, SARA-based hate speech, to articles of the Criminal Code on incitement.
