Jakarta –
Two Sergio Ramos penalty executions failed to break the Swiss goal. The coach of the Spanish team, Luis Enrique, defended Ramos.
Spain visited Switzerland at the St Stadium. Jakob-Park in the continuation of the UEFA Nations League, Sunday (11/15/2020), WIB. The duel between the two teams ended with a score of 1-1.
Switzerland took the lead for the first time in the first half with a goal from Remo Freuler. Spain tied the score before the end of the match through Gerard Moreno.
Spain could end the match with a victory. The results could have changed for the better if Ramos did not squander the opportunity with a penalty.
Unfortunately for the captain, two attempts in the 56th and 79th minutes were thwarted by Swiss goalkeeper Yann Sommer. This is Ramos’ fifth failure to shoot penalties in his career. So far there have been 29 penalties that have resulted in goals.
Enrique does not regret too much of the failure of Ramos. He evaluated that Ramos would throw penalties again if Spain put him in the next game.
“Soccer is an extraordinary sport, but sometimes it is unfair and we see it in the final result,” Enrique said in a post-match interview, quoted by Football Spain.
“The failure of Ramos is not my business. He has scored 25 penalties in a row. These things happen in football. If we take a third or fourth penalty, Ramos will take it,” confirms Enrique.
Spain fell to second place in Group 4 after accumulating eight points, one point behind Germany at the top. Switzerland in a relaxed position with three points.
