The Netherlands recovered quickly from their loss to Turkey a few days ago. Hosting Latvia, De Oranje won two unanswered goals.

In the continuation of Qualification for the European Zone Group G World Cup 2022 that took place at Johan Cruyff ArenA, on Sunday (3/28/2021) WIB early in the morning, the Netherlands had a hard time to penetrate the Latvian defense.

Even though he had 37 attempts, only 11 were aimed at goal and two of them were converted into goals in each round. The printers are Steven Berghuis and Luuk de Jong.

This victory takes the Netherlands temporarily to third place in the standings with three points, ahead of Norway in fourth place. Latvia ranks fifth with zero points.

The course of the match

Both teams need to win after losing the opening match. The Dutch lined Luuk de Jong on the front lines along with Memphis Depay and Steven Berghuis, who were supported by Gini WIjnaldum.

The Dutch, who seemed to attack from the first minutes, struggled to create goals. In the sixth minute, the Netherlands came close to taking the lead if Igors Tarasovs did not clear De Jong’s header right on the goal line.

Davy Klaassen, who played with Frenkie de Jong as a double pivot, also occasionally helped the attacker. The Netherlands continued to pressure the Latvian defense by crossing or making short passes in midfield, but Latvia remained difficult to penetrate.

In the 16th minute, Berghuis has a chance to score a goal if his shot continues with Memphis’ measured pass not deflected. Berghuis did not waste an opportunity in the 32nd minute to put the Netherlands ahead.

Klaesen finished the neatly constructed attack with a short pass to Berghuis in front of the penalty area. From 20 yards, Berghuis shoots the ball into the top corner that Roberts Ozols cannot stop under the Latvian bar.

Memphis has a chance to increase the Dutch lead in the 36th minute when they play 1-2 passes with Owen Wijndal. Unfortunately, Memphis shot a bit off the mark.

Until the break, the Netherlands continued to lead with a score of 1-0. In the second half, the Netherlands again found it difficult to break through to the Latvian defense.

In the 56th minute, the Netherlands caused chaos in front of the Latvian goal when Matthijs de Ligt’s header was struck by goalkeeper Ozols. However, the ball was quickly cleared again by the visiting rear.

The Netherlands scored their second goal in the 68th minute. From a Memphis corner, the ball heads into the penalty area and Luuk de Jong heads in front of the goal to make it 2-0.
