Jakarta, CNN Indonesia –

Deputy Expert of the Office of Presidential Personnel Donny Gahral Adian reminded the Governor of DKI Jakarta Anies Baswedan coordinate with the ministries related to the implementation of the total Large-Scale Social Restrictions (PSBB).

According to him, this is in accordance with the direction of President Joko Widodo so that regional heads can step on the “brake” and the “accelerator” to balance health and economic issues.

“The decision of the PSBB returns to the regional head to step on the brakes in the most intelligent way possible. For example, in coordination with the pertinent ministries, so that it is not sporadic, nor individual,” Donny said when contacted. CNNIndonesia.com, Friday (9/11).

Anies has decided to re-implement the full PSBB on September 14 amid an increase in positive Covid-19 cases in Jakarta.

The PSBB was implemented prior to the start of the pandemic, but then relaxed through the transitional PSBB which was extended five times.

Donny said the decision to fully reintroduce the PSBB was within the authority of the regional chief when adjusting the data in the field.

However, according to him, each regional official must take into account so that the policy does not disturb the economy. This is because the economy is highly dependent on the mobility of people. Meanwhile, during the PSBB, the mobility of many people will stop.

“So how do you apply the brakes in the smartest way possible to curb the positive growth rate, but also not to have a negative impact on the economy? This requires wisdom to make full PSBB policies,” he said.

Anies, he continued, should first have a meeting with the relevant ministries to discuss the various impacts that will be caused by the total PSBB.

“At least there will be a meeting with the relevant ministries to discuss the positives and negatives. If it has to be enforced, you need to anticipate mitigation,” Donny said.

“It should be discussed together, so that it does not appear that it is being executed separately,” he added.

Anies had previously decided to re-implement the PSBB in its entirety taking into account the increasing number of positive cases. It predicts that the hospital capacity on September 17 will be full if the PSBB is not implemented.

In his statement on Wednesday night (9/9), Anies admitted that the number of hospital beds, medicines and personal protective equipment for health workers had started to run out.

However, this was denied by the Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs, Airlangga Hartarto, who claimed that the health capacity could still accommodate Covid-19 patients. In fact, according to him, government funds are still sufficient to cover patients.

He made sure that the government would increase the capacity of beds in the hospital as needed.
