Prophet Muhammad SAW’s birthday coincides with Prophet Muhammad SAW’s birthday on the 12th of Rabiul Awal.
SuaraJakarta.id – Soon, Muslims in Indonesia will celebrate the birthday of Prophet Muhammad SAW. This celebration will take place on Thursday (10/28/2020).
During Mawlid, Muslims often engage in various religious activities.
Prophet Muhammad SAW’s birthday coincides with Prophet Muhammad SAW’s birthday on the 12th of Rabiul Awal.
However, it turns out that the law of the Prophet’s birthday is still a controversy in itself.
Two legal opinions
On the one hand, the celebration of the Prophet’s birthday is something that is an alias of heresy, an act or form that was never said or exemplified by Rasulullah or his companions, and then done as if it were the teachings of Islam.
On the other hand, there is also a law that allows to celebrate the birthday of Prophet Muhammad SAW.
In this regard, Ustaz Abdul Somad (UAS) in his lecture explained the law to commemorate the birthday of Prophet Muhammad SAW.
It describes that there are about 300 thousand hadiths that say that the commemoration of the Prophet Muhammad SAW’s birthday can be done.
Meanwhile, only a small number of Saudi scholars consider the birthday of Prophet Muhammad SAW.
In his talk, UAS also presented some hadiths and the opinions of great scholars on the policy of allowing the birth of Prophet Muhammad SAW.
“The positive thing about the Prophet’s birthday is the friendship between them. Not once a year, but every week on Monday,” UAS said.
Furthermore, he revealed that the Apostle had celebrated his birthday by fasting.
“Rasulullah SAW was once asked why he fasted on Monday. One of them was Rasulullah SAW apparently remembering his own birthday,” UAS said, citing one of HR Muslim’s hadiths.
Rasulullah SAW replied: “That day I was born and the day I was raised (or that day was revealed) [Alquran] to me). “
There are also other reasons that refer to the Prophet’s interpretation of the Ayyamillah prayer in QS Ibrahim [14]: 5 which says: “And remind them of the days of Allah.”
Imam An-Nisa’i Abdullah bin Ahmad in Zawa’id al-Musnad, al-Baihaqi in Syu’ab al-Iman of Ubai bin Ka’ab narrated from Rasulullah SAW that Rasulullah SAW interpreted the Ayyamillah prayer as blessings and rewards of Allah. SWT.
“Therefore, the meaning of the verse is ‘And remind them of the blessings and goodnesses of Allah.’ And the birth of Muhammad SAW is the greatest favor and goodness that should be remembered and thanked,” said UAS.
Ibn Taymiyyah’s opinion
In addition to the above opinion, UAS also shows the opinion of Ibn Thaumiah.
Ibn Taymiyyah, who explained that glorifying the Prophet Muhammad SAW’s birthday and making it a celebration, received a great reward for his good intentions and glorification of the Prophet SAW.
Another opinion that UAS also explained comes from Al-Hafizh Ibn Hajar Al-‘Asqalani.
“The original law of executing maulid is heresy, not of any of the Salafushshalih of the three (first) centuries. But the maulid also contains many virtues and vice versa. Who by wearing it seeks the good and avoids the bad, then the maulid is a hasanah heresy, that’s the opinion of Al-Hafizh Ibn Hajar Al-‘Asqalani, “said UAS.
“Therefore, the meaning of the verse is ‘And remind them of the blessings and kindnesses of Allah.’ And the birth of Muhammad SAW is the greatest favor and goodness that should be remembered and thanked.”
