JAKARTA – President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) just did remodeling Advanced Cabinet of Indonesia. In total there are six names of new ministers. One of them is Yaqut Cholil Qoumas or familiarly called Gus Yaqut who was appointed minister of religion (menag).

The man who was born in Rembang on January 4, 1975 is the President General of the Ansor Youth Movement (GP), one of the autonomous bodies of Nahdlatul Ulama (NU). Furthermore, Gus Yaqut is also listed as a member of the Indonesian Parliament from the National Awakening Party (PKB) faction.

Gus Yaqut is the son of KH Muhammad Cholil Bisri, one of the founders of PKB and brother of Yahya Staquf, Katib Aam PBNU. (Also read: The Presidency of the Minister of Education and Culture is full of Muhammadiyah, the Minister of Religion is full of UN, Observers: That is correct)

Following Wikipedia, Gus Yaqut studied at SDN Kutoharjo (1981 – 1987) and continued his education at SMPN II Rembang (1987 – 1990), then continued his education at SMAN II Rembang (1990 – 1993). He obtained a BA from the University of Indonesia with a specialization in sociology.

Since his youth, Gus Yaqut has been active in organizations and founded the Depok branch of the Indonesian Islamic Students Association (PMII) (1996-1999) on the UI campus. (Also read: 6 new Jokowi ministers wear compact blue jackets)

His political career began at PKB Rembang. Gus Yaqut was entrusted with the Presidency of the Rembang Regency Branch Leadership Council (DPC) (2001-2014). Subsequently, in 2005, Gus Yaqut entered the practical political arena and became a member of the Rembang Regency DPRD (2005). In the same year 2005, Gus Yaqut ran for the post of Deputy Regent in Pilkada 2005 and was elected Deputy Regent of Rembang (2005-2010).

In 2012, Gus Yaqut was given increased responsibility to serve as Vice President of DPW PKB Central Java (2012-2017).

Gus Yaqut is becoming more and more active in the realm of community and political organizations by expanding his organizational wings until in 2015 he was given the responsibility of leading the largest and oldest youth organization in Indonesia, namely GP Ansor as President General of the period 2015-2020.

Gus Yaqut was sworn in as a member of the Indonesian parliament for the period 2014-2019 as an inter-temporary replacement (PAW) to replace Hanif Dhakiri, who was appointed Minister of Manpower in President Jokowi’s Cabinet of Labor.

In the 2019 elections, Gus Yaqut again qualified for Senayan and received the mandate of Vice President of Commission II.

It is known, in addition to the name of Gus Yaqut, that the other five new ministers are Tri Rismaharini, who was appointed Minister of Social Affairs (Mensos) to replace Juliari Batubara.

Then Sandiaga Salahuddin Uno as Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy (Parekraf) replaced Wishnutama. Later, Budi Gunadi Sadikin was appointed Minister of Health (Menkes) replacing Dr. Terawan. Other names are Sakti Wahyu Trenggono as Minister of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) replacing Edhy Prabowo, and Muhammad Lutfi as Minister of Commerce (Minister of Commerce) replacing Agus Suparmanto.
