TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – Democratic Party politician Mulyadi has officially registered as a candidate for Governor of West Sumatra with the West Sumatra General Election Commission. Mulyadi took on National Mandate Party politician Ali Mukhni, who has served as Pariaman’s regent for two terms.

“All the requirements, God willing, are complete and we have consulted them,” Mulyadi said before entering the West Sumatra KPU office late Sunday, September 6, 2020, quoted on langgam.id.

Mulyadi-Ali Mukhni registered with the KPU with the support of the Democratic Party and the PAN. The two decided to ‘leave’ the Indonesian Democratic Struggle Party, which had previously been the host party, after a controversy over the statement by PDIP DPP President Puan Maharani on West Sumatra and Pancasila.

Mulyadi and Ali Mukhni are native sons of West Sumatra. Mulyadi was born in Bukitinggi, West Sumatra, on March 13, 1963. He studied primary and secondary education in West Sumatra and high school in Bandung, West Java. With a BA in Environmental Engineering from the Academy of Public Works Engineering (ATPU) Bandung (1987), he majored in Environmental Engineering at Trisakti University until his degree (1994).

Starting his career as a consultant in the environmental sector, Mulyadi later became a director and commissioner at various companies. Namely, the Director of PT Teifin Prima Rekayasa (1995-1996), the President Director of PT adicitra Mulyatama (1996-2009), the President Commissioner of PT adicitra Mulyatama (2009-2010).

Mulyadi joined the Democratic Party and has been registered as a legislator in 2005. His career as a member of the People’s Representative Council began in 2009. The father of two children re-qualified for Senayan in the next two legislative elections. Currently, he is a member of Commission III of the DPR that handles the legal sector.

Besides being a party, Mulyadi has also been active in various organizations. Served as Vice Chairman of the National Executive Board of the Indonesian National Consultants Association (Inkindo) in 2002-2006, Chairman of the Central Executive Board of the Indonesian Consultants Association (Perkindo) in 2006-2012, Chairman of the Board Advisor to Perkindo in 2012-present, and Vice President of the Construction Committee and permanent consultancy for the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) in 2008-2010.

In January, Mulyadi came into the limelight after being caught on camera exiting a car with a special license plate for the Indonesian National Police. West Sumatra Police Chief of Public Relations Senior Commissioner Satake Bayu confirmed at the time that the photo was true.

“It is true that there was an incident like that. But when he approached, the officer immediately replaced the license plate,” Satake said on Saturday, January 18, 2020. However, Satake said police did not know where Mulyadi got the license plate from. Also, the black Toyota Fortuner he was in was privately owned, not an asset of the National Police.

According to information obtained by Tempo, the photo was taken when Mulyadi made a working visit to the Guguak sub-district, Lima Puluh Kota Regency, West Sumatra province, on Monday, January 13, 2020 at 3:00 pm WIB, in the home of the Retail Mart store.

According to the same source, Mulyadi attended a cadre meeting with approximately 200 participants. The participants in attendance were the President of the Democratic Branch of the Fifty Cities District, who is also a candidate for the local regent candidate. There are also members of the Fifty Cities Regency DPRD, including Sastri Andiko Dt. Putiah and Marshal.

“According to the cadre’s statement, Mulyadi’s main goal in Fifty Cities is to participate in the cadre rally to win Mulyadi to become governor of West Sumatra in 2020 and Darman Sahladi to become regent of fifty cities,” Satake said.

Mulyadi also clashed with Regent Agam Indra Catri, who was running as a candidate for Lieutenant Governor along with West Sumatra’s Lieutenant Governor Nasrul Abit. Indra Catri was reportedly sympathetic to Mulyadi with the police because he was believed to be behind a Facebook post that contained a photo of Mulyadi with a woman.

Mulyadi clarified that the woman in the photo was his wife. However, he questioned the narrative that seemed to frame the woman as not his wife.

Currently, Indra Catri and four other people have the status of suspects, including the regional secretary Agam Martias Wanto, ES (58), who is an employee of the government of the Agam regency, and RH (50) and RP (33), who They are Indra Catri’s assistants.
